This is an original plate from the Natural History of New York, Part 1 Zoology; Reptiles and Fishes by James E. De Kay. The book was published in 1842 by D. Appleton & Co. and Wiley & Putnam of New York. The plates were printed by W. & A. White and J. Visscher in 1842. This picture is plate 34 and features common pickerel, banded dace, spawn-eater and barred pickerel fish.
This original illustrated antique print has been hand colored with museum quality watercolor in a palette accurately matching the true coloration of the fish depicted. The picture has been excellently preserved and is in near fine condition. Size for original: approximately 8 1/2 inches by 11 inches.
